In Germersheim, only a 30-minute drive from Landau, is an imposing fort from the 19th century with a difference: it’s Bavarian. It was built by the Bavarian King Ludwig I as a stronghold against the French. In those days, the Palatinate belonged to Bavaria. Germersheim itself is also worth a visit.
